Join Accomplished Instructor Colette Savage in this versatile beautiful medium. Get a beautiful softness similar to a Degas’, or photographic realism. Pastels are considered a form of painting, yet you have the control of a stick or pencil, making it more like drawing. Learn about different substrates to paint on and different types of pastels and how they react. Beginner to intermediate. Please feel free to bring along any pastels, paper…which you currently own to our first class. A materials list is attached, but DO NOT purchase any new materials until AFTER the first class.

**Please Note: DO NOT purchase any materials until AFTER the first class. During our first class, we will be testing a variety of papers and pastels which I will provide. Please feel free to bring along any pastels or pastel papers which you currently own to test along with my samples for our first class.**
- Soft Pastels- Your choice of brands, with a large assortment of colors and value (dark and light). If you already own pastels, bring what you have.
- Pastel Paper- Your choice of brand and type
- Drawing Board- A piece of Masonite is fine
- Masking Tape
- Baby Wipes
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Small disposable dish to place the pastels you are using
- Glove in a Bottle- Or another type of barrier lotion
- Several reference photos
- Glassine of other smooth paper-used to cover and protect the painting
Optional Items:
- Inexpensive craft brush
- Rubbing Alcohol

In this class, students learn to draw what they see. Proportion, perspective, composition, basic forms, negative space, and tonal value are emphasized. Pencil, charcoal, pastel and paint are used. Students will be given projects based on their ability. Class limit: 12
Materials List
- Drawing pad w/perforated top 9 x 12 or 11 x 14
- Chalk pastel set of 24 or 48 student grade is fine
- Medium and soft Charcoal pencil
- 4 graphite drawing pencils, hard, med & soft
- Metal sharpener
- Pink pearl eraser
- Kneaded eraser
- Blending tortillions
